Catedral Metropolitana

2_5 Builted in 1561 in the heart of the city, the Cathedral was not consacrated until 1616. Since then it has undergone several changes so that it now reflects Gothic, baroque, moorish and neoclassical architectural styles. The original towers were destroyed in the 1818 earthquake and were rebuilt, along with the principal dome, during the 19th century. The cathedral has three naves and houses one of the oldest organs in the city.

Acuatic Homero

1_5The aquatic school is placed in the middle of the traditional Polanco neighbourhood, offers recreational swimming and swimming courses for all ages, including a class for babies under a year old. The school also has a modern gym, which offers aerobics, tae kwon do and jazz classes.

Camellón del Paseo de la Reforma

Reforma1The City of Mexico has more than 100 museums, not counting independent galleries and exhibit rooms, but it seems that the walk that divides Paseo de la Reforma, in front of the Modern Art museum, has become an ideal space for sculpture exhibits. It is permanently open, and of course, with no admission fee. While visiting Reforma, Chapultepec or Polanco, you can make a stop to admire this modern exhibition. The pieces are changed every three months. Open all year.

Parque Acuático El Rollo

Xocomil_02 This aquatic park sports a wave pool and a beach with sand brought all the way from the seaside;you can also enjoy several water-slides if you are looking for a rush. The little ones can play all sorts of aquatic games and run freely around the grassy areas. A souvenir shop sells a variety of beach accessories and a fast food restaurant will save you if you get hungry. There are frequent variety shows and contests that the public can take part in. Admission costs $60 pesos for adults, and $25 for children 4 feet tall or less.

Planeta Azul

Planeta_azulRecently opened, this place is very interesting for both children and adults. You get to visit the insides of a giant woman and learn about the anatomy and physicology of the human body. You can also find a prehistoric zoo inside, which exhibits 26 species of land and marine animals. Visit the simulator and the workshops, where you will have fun while learning more about nature and science. General admission is 20 pesos.

Museo Tecnológico de la Comisión Federal de Electricidad

Mex2This science museum invites the visitors to interact with the exhibits. Visitors learn science without getting bored; not just physics and electromagnetism, but also the complex process of generating electricity for a city as big as the Mexican capital. There is also a planetarium complete with telescope and astronomical projections. The transportation exhibition includes several wagons and trains from different historical periods displayed outside the building. This is not the typical museum, in this one you will NOT find that annoying "please don't touch" sign. GREAT for kids!

Museo Nacional de Antropología

Mex1This museum is one of the best of its gender. An enormus statue of the water god Tláloc, is placed near the entrance. Archaeological finds are exhibited throughout 11 halls depicting the different American cultures. Ranging from the prehistoric until the Mexicas period, the civilizations highlighted include the Golfo, Teotihuacan, Maya and Tolteca. The cafeteria is worthwhile, and musicians often give performances here, using replicas of prehistoric instruments.

Isla de Pasion

This small island just off Cozumel's northern coast is part of the state-sponsored wildlife refuge located in the Abrigo Bay. Almost no one visits this island and consequently the beaches are filled with birds and wildlife. Fishing is permitted but since there are no scheduled tours those interested in visiting must hire a boat.
