Cenotes

Cenote Cenote is the name given to a type of freshwater filled limestone sinkhole in Central America and Mexico, and this name comes from the Mayan word dz'onot. You can find several cenotes in Yucatan and in Quintana Roo, even Chichén Itzá was built around a cluster of these natural wells, and they had different uses, like the Cenote of Sacrifice, used for Mayan rites.

Puerto Morelos

Puerto_morelos Puerto Morelos in Yucatan Peninsula is a small fishing village, 20km south of Cancun. Great location for a quiet beach vacation with all the tourist amenities, and without the noise and lights of Cancun. The town is rather small, with 2 main streets, and you can go from one end of the town to the other in like 15 minutes, and you have a beautiul reef off the shore that is a National Park.

Valladolid Valladolid is a small city located near the east entrance of Chichen Itza, in Yucatan, offering a great alternative for starting point to visit the ruins. Since it is a small city, you walk and visit the main sights without needing any other transportation. Don't miss the Parque Fransisco Canton Rosado, the central town square, which is surrounded by beautiful colonial style constructions, and the cathedral, Catedral de San Gervasio.

Chicxulub Crater

Chixuclub Chicxulub Crater is an ancient impact crater buried underneath the Yucatán Peninsula, and the investigations suggest that date from the late Cretaceous Period. According to the investigations, for the impact crater, the meteorite was about 10 km diameter, and it is believed to be the meteorite that ended the life of the dinosaurs according to one of the theories that exist on this subject.

Mérida

MeridaMérida is the capital of the state of Yucatan, and it is a city full of contrasts. The City Hall sponsors many cultural events, free of charge, during the week, like outdoor concerts and dances in one of the city's many parks and squares; also, take a walk through the Paseo Montejo, a very beautiful tree lined street, with delicious bakeries and don't miss the tamales that are sold by a family at the Plaza de la Bandera, they are great!

Kohunlich

KohunlichKohunlich is a large archaeological site of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization, on the Yucatán Peninsula, covering an area of 21 acres and surrounded by dense rain forest, containing about 200 mounds most of them unexcavated. This site was settled around 200 BC and most of the structures were built in the Early Classic period from about 250 to 600 AD. This city was extremely planned and engineered, its raised platforms and pyramids, citadels, courtyards and plazas are all laid out to channel drainage into a system of cisterns and an enormous reservoir designed to collect rainwater.

Isla Mujeres

Isla_mujeresIsla Mujeres is an island near Cancun, located in the Caribbean Sea on the coast of Yucatan Peninsula. Its beaches are beyond amazing, you will find yourself never wanting to get outside the water! In Playa del Norte there are some nice beachfront restaurants and bars, and it is a great place for beach volleyball. Another great place to visit is Garafon Park, where you can swim with the fish.

Uxmal

UxmalUxmal is a very large pre Columbian ruined city of the Maya civilization, located in the state of Yucatán. The architecture here is considered to be matched only by the one of Palenque, both in elegance and beauty, and has a predominant Puuc style. Among the buildings in the area, the most important are the Governor's Palace, a long low building atop a huge platform, the Adivino or Pyramid of the Magician, the Nunnery Quadrangle and a large Ball court for playing the Mesoamerican ballgame.
